It is sometimes impossible to keep the speed of rotation of the wheel in diagram above constant, so that the dots appear to move slowly forward or back. I'm wondering if I need to disassemble the motor and clean it. The wear and tear with time of the moving parts of watches have been photographed with the aid of a stroboscope. When I change the speeds, the wheel does go to the proper level compared to the motor spindle. The wheel wouldn't even go near the motor. The Stroboscope installation package is a single executable file named StroboscopeSetup.exe which can be downloaded from the following links. But before those springs weren't pulling the wheel onto the motor spindle when i turned on the player. I also changed out the 2 tension springs that were on the rod the idler wheel sits on (one was bent, the other didn't seem to be pulling the rod the idler wheel was on into place) I'm not sure if that is causing the problem or not. It’s difficult to turn the 12-slit stroboscope slowly enough to see a single stationary arrow. I have removed the old grease on the turntable's spindle and re-lubricated it with white grease. The table initially wouldn't turn at all on startup. Then if I turn the unit off and then on again, it fails to repeat. I have had it happen occasionally where if I start on auto 78 (with a 78 on the player) and then change to 45 speed before the needle plays, the record plays at a perfect 78. The accuracy of the UK mains frequency is generally accepted to be very good so a simple strobe disc is really all you need. Instructions (1) Select the correct mains frequency for your country (2) Print out the speed disc to the desired size (3) Cut a 7.25mm hole in the centre for the spindle (4) View the disc under standard tungsten room lamp (5) Bars should appear. When I change the speed on the unit, I get varied results. With the Oehlbach Speed Check stroboscope disc you get an exact tool to check the platter speed of your turntable and tune it for maximum sound. Use these free strobe discs to check the running speed of your turntable and adjust as neccasary. I've been using the internet heavily, but I need help from the experts now. I picked up a magnavox turntable console W801-01-00 at an estate sale recently and have been trying to get it running.
